Emperor scorpions are commonly sold in pet stores, and not just the ones that specialize in exotics. These arthropods look fearsome, but they rarely sting. They will occasionally nip with their large pincers, but even this is fairly uncommon, and they don't normally draw blood when they pinch. (In fact, I'm not even certain if they have enough strength to pierce human skin.)
Their venom isn't particularly potent. As always, care must be taken when handling venomous animals such as these, especially since anaphylactic shock is a potential hazard. However, because of their impressive size, gentle disposition and mild venom, these creatures are commonly used in television and the movies.
